My Weblog

Welcome to AniolKobieta's Weblog

This is where I decided to put my weblog. It might not be the best site template for it, but oh well. I cannot host anyone right now for fear that it would destroy my site, as I do not know how to do so. Anyway, if you want to read my older stuff (includes such classics as "How We Should Fix the Government") go to http://www.deadjournal.com/~aniol

What's new on the site
8/02/02
I put a poll on the site...it asks what should I do next so I can write about something besides sitting here all day. Check it out.

I put a news headline link on the site, in the "news without annoying anchors" section. I also changed the sitewide menu, so the links you've been using to get places on my site (you five people that are reading this) may have changed. There's also a new page full of links to quizzes, and my results on them, if anyone cares. There's also a message board now on a new page, and I'm looking into making a chat room. Check back later for this.

FANSIGN MANIA! Be sure to check out Amanda's fansign in my new fansign section. There's also a link to a world cup soccer game in my new games section. I'm going to try to put the actual game on the site soon. Watch this section for updates.

I'm not here. I'll have a computer at my aunt's house, but I probably won't get on it too much...it'll be routine maintenance and maybe an entry or two if I get the chance.

7/19/02
Lots of new things. All the pages have content that was added within the past three days. And I put a comet cursor on the site.

7/15/02
Seven Things appears twice on the about me page...I can't fix that. Sorry, folks.

7/14/02
It exists. First weblog entry.

I didn't get ANY sleep last night! Not a wink. I watched some TV to get my eyes tired, then I read a book, then I wrote a letter to my penpal, Maja (who has an entry in the guestbook), then I CLEANED my ROOM. This, in and of itself, is a miracle and is proof of the existance of God. Before, you literally could not see the floor, except in five strategic "Stepping Holes" about a two feet each in circumference that I used to get to my bed, the dresser, the closet, and the door. The whole room was covered in junk about a foot deep, two or three feet in some places. I'm not kidding, and I'm not exaggerating. It was really like that. So I cleaned it. And now it's clean...cluttered and in desperate need of vacuuming, but clean. Then I read some more books. Then I found a volleyball and did some practice sets. Then I started doing soccer keep-ups. Afraid to wake my parents, I moved downstairs for the keep ups. I haven't done keep-ups in about 5 years. No, wait, more like 7. So I had terrible control. And I did this in a room filled with BREAKABLE OBJECTS. But I didn't destroy anything. So then it was 5:30, so I resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't be sleeping that night and made some breakfast for my dad.

Just thought you might like to know all that.

So some of us have seen the commercials for that new show, American Idol. We've seen the recent ones that say "Last week the pressure became too much for one contestant," and then we see the host say "Christina Christian was rushed to a local hospital." You see shots of the other contestants crying and saying things, "One of my closest friends..." "we love you, Christina!"

So inquisitive little me wanted to know what happened. I asked around and it turns out that she was just taken to a hospital as a minor precaution. Apparantly she was hypoglycemic or something. Skipping a meal is not "the pressure becoming too much for one contestant." So what's the point of all that hype? They're obviously trying to make it sound like she tried to kill herself.

This is absolutely, irrevocably, irreversably disgusting . I pray to God that the people of America are smart enough not to watch the show just because of that ad. Suicide is most certainly not a way to boost ratings. I don't know what's more disgusting, the fact that they're being opportunistic enough to try to profit from Christina's misfortune, or that they're trying to haul in ratings by tweaking clips to make it look like she tried to kill herself.

I've never watched the show, and this only gives me more reason not to.

I was looking for a walkthrough for final fantasy IX yesterday. I know, I know...walkthroughs are so overrated and certainly sap some of the fun from the game, but I was really, really stuck. Then I saw the walkthrough and I discovered that I missed my sidequest by a few hours...Apparantly I was supposed to go to Dali and sneak into the mayor's room to get the key and go out to the garden to find the Birman coffee to give to Morrid so he'd give me the Theater Ship model (I knew that much already), but I was supposed to do it before I competed in the card tournament in Treno, when Dr. Tot takes us there while Dagger is preparing for her coronation. AUGH. So now I have to go back a few hours in the game to finish that sidequest. Yes, I *have* to, I restarted the whole game so I could do that sidequest and damned if I'm going to miss it this time. Furthermore, I found a site containing spoilers for the ending, but without warnings. So now I'm on the third disk out of four, HOURS away from being finished, and I KNOW HOW IT ENDS. AUGH.

Another disturbing thing I found were fanfics. I've seen them for TV shows, cartoons, even some books, but *never* for a video game. Especially not fanfics of the romantic persuasion. So I decided to look at one of them at random, hey, it can't be longer than like a paragraph, right? Wrong. After reading a paragraph of it, I started skimming to find out where it ends. There's two chapters and one unfinished (and thusly unposted) third chapter. This means that there could be even a fourth chapter, or a fifth. Perhaps the most disturbing thing was, aside from the minor spelling errors and the subject matter, the writing was very good. If this person were putting their talent toward their own short story or book, they could be amazingly sucessful. But no, they're writing about what would happen if Zidane and Dagger got married and the Iifa tree came back to life.

I have this pet peeve about wasted talent, and seeing such a massacre of talent really annoyed me. But oh well, you can't stop people from doing this sort of thing, I guess. Not without major psychiatric evaluations. I won't go so far as to say "If you can't beat them, join them," God no...the only thing I would possibly do in relation to a FF9 fanfic would be to write a really climactic story, and then...when my reading audience was on the edge of their seats...anticipating the ending that would tie up all the loose ends...I would write that I was too busy to make up an ending for it, but that my readers were free to make up their own in their minds.

Fair? No. Cruel? Maybe. Worthwhile? Hell, yes.

Guess what? I'm not going to the mall! So I can stay here, chatting with you fine people.

Hey! HEY! COME BACK HERE!

Better.

Anyway, last night I watched Terminal Error on TBS...it's not a very good movie. But it did teach us some valuable lessons. For one thing, we learned that if you are a teenager who has to fight some form of evil, it is necessary for your parents to be divorced, and better if the divorce wasn't exactly amicable. It also teaches us that computers are evil, and that we have placed Too Much Trust in Technology.

Now that you know the Moral of the Story, you don't have to see the movie. Aren't you glad I saved you?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!AAAAAAAAAAA! Stupid site! AAAAAAAAAAAA!

Phew.

Sorry about that.

I'm feeling a bit better now. You see, my counter and chat room aren't showing up, and the game I want to put on here is one of the games the site won't let me put on here. But I'm sure I can find a way around that somehow.

Anyway, I was digging for my touchpad mouse, and instead I found an old looking camera. It is, in a word, 'cool'. I assume that it doesn't work or that the film necessary to use it is no longer made. But I'll ask, because, as I said, it is, in a word, cool. I only wrote that sentance as an excuse to make a perfectly grammatically correct statement that started out with a preposition and included five commas.

So. Today I'm gonna go to CVS, because I have a three-dollar coupon that expires tomorrow. Can't let THAT happen, can we? Tomorrow I'm probably going to the mall. Fun fun.

ARG the site is being evil. Evil, evil, evil! It refuses to show the Seven Things list in the "rabid self-profiling section." Also my webcounter isn't showing up. And this is when I use a site that DOESN'T require any knowledge of website-making. Sad, eh? I agree.

Moving on. I didn't do anything productive today, and I'm too tired to lie and say I did (see yesterday's entry).

So.

Today was an astonishingly productive day...first I went out and I ended world hunger, and I helped broach a peace treaty in the middle east. Then I cured AIDS and several forms of cancer. As I walked towards Washington D.C. preparing an attempt to prove to the government that day is night and night is day, I darted into the path of an oncoming bus and was splattered on the pavement like...like...well, like something that splatters, I suppose.

Yeah, you may have noticed that I was lying. It kind of got away from me at the end there. You see, I've done nothing that's truly interesting, so I was compelled to make something up to amuse you all.

"But aniol," you're probably saying, "didn't you go to New York last week?"

Oh yeah. So I did.
Anyway, I went to my aunt's house in new york last week. We went to Keansburg Amusement Park. Here's a life tip for you. Unless you're under the age of eight, DON'T GO to Keansburg Amusement Park. It was nice enough and priced ok, but like four of the rides are for adults, and when we went there was one operator for three of the rides and the fourth (the Wildcat) wasn't working. So just avoid it. Avoid it like you would avoid a small, dirty-looking person carrying around a 100% fatal strain of the Ebola virus in a burlap sack. Got that?
Anyway.
Another thing you can try as a Fun-Filled Family Outing is the Staten Island botanical gardens. Not to sound like a commercial, but it's got Something For Everyone. Take your artsy types into the art building, take your youthful types into the childrens museum, take your botanical types into the gardens, and leave your camera-totin' types (that's me) outside to take pictures of things.
Anyway.
I have to be working on this site that you're enjoying so much...when it's finished (ha) then I'll be able to spend more time writing.

ARG the site ate all my info and I had to do it over again...ARG. Did I mention ARG?

Anyway, today we went to Ikea (WOOHOO) and we exchanged a chair. Then we walked through all the showrooms and I got some ideas for my room. I'm thinking about getting a loft bed and putting a desk under it, getting a few drawers to add storage space in my closet, and getting a chair and table to go...somewhere. *sigh*. The problem is I don't want to get rid of the bed I have now, because it's nice and made of wood and it has pretty flower inlays on the headboard. Preeeeety...

Then we went to the post office and I mailed a bunch o' letters. Watch me drain my college fund on stamps. When we got home I went back to the pen-pal site and I found out that one of the people I wrote to had updated her profile and didn't want any letters from the US...oops.

Anyway, I should be fixing this site, not talking to all you fine people.

Bye,

WOW! Go me! I made a site! I'm so proud of me! Anyway, I have no idea what I'm doing so if the background is electric pink and the text runs together it's because I don't know what I'm doing and I'll have it fixed soon, so worry not.
Anyway, today I got a new chair for the computer room. It's a red spinny chair. My dad was like "don't spin in it" and I was like "bs, it's a spinny chair" so I spin in it quite a bit.

That is all I did today. Tomorrow will be more interesting, because it probably won't be raining. I'll probably coerce one of my friends into doing something with me like going out to lunch or going to a bookstore. Bwa ha ha.
